Goals
The European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) is a membership organisation dedicated to promoting and developing palliative care across Europe and beyond. Recognized by the Council of Europe, EAPC aims to speak with "one voice and one vision" on important palliative care matters. It provides a forum for those working in or interested in palliative care, respecting the cultural and political diversity of its members. EAPC collaborates closely with members, research partners, and other European and international agencies. Through its extensive networks, it advocates, anticipates, and proactively shapes EU health and research policies on palliative care issues, raising awareness about palliative care and its value for individuals, healthcare services, and communities.

EU Legislative Proposals and Initiatives Followed
EAPC is particularly interested in EU Health and Research areas, including the management and treatment of all life-limiting conditions and chronic disease management across the lifespan. This encompasses Access to Healthcare, Access to Medicines, Innovative Treatments, and Quality of (Health)Care.
Specific legislative and related implementation acts followed by EAPC include:

EAPC has been and continues to be involved in several EU-funded research projects on palliative care. Notable past involvement includes producing guidelines on cancer pain management (2001, revised 2012) and partnering in the ATOME project (Access to opioid medication in Europe), which investigated reasons for inadequate opioid use for pain in twelve European countries and provided evidence for improved access.
EAPC is represented on the European Commission-funded Civil Society Forum on Drugs, where it provides expert input on access to opioids for pain management in palliative care, despite the group's primary focus on illicit drug use. EAPC is also lobbying to establish a Civil Society Forum on Palliative Care. In 2019, EAPC was involved in establishing new and updated guidelines after the WHO withdrew previous guidelines on opioid use in children and adults.

Communication Activities
EAPC is recognized by the Council of Europe, has informal links with the World Health Organisation, and participates in several EU-funded palliative care research projects. It is represented on the European Commission-funded Civil Society Forum on Drugs, providing expertise on access to opioids for pain management.
EAPC hosts a biennial World Congress, attracting up to 3000 delegates, and a biennial World Research Congress with around 1000 delegates.
EAPC has a history of producing highly respected and cited position papers, white papers, reports, and academic papers on key palliative care issues. These papers are developed by task forces, with topics proposed by the EAPC Board or by members. Current task forces include:
